About the Project
This project, entitled “Governance and performance of non-state actors:a comparative analysis of social protection service providers in four selected districts in Tanzania” is a collaboration between the Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) and Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR). The main objective of the project is to analyse how principal-agent and principal-steward relations influence performance of non-state social protection actors. The specific objectives are:
- Mapping out the non-state social protection service actors;
- Determining the performance levels of actors involved in principal-agent and principal-steward
relations;
- Investigating the similarities and/or differences in the performance levels of actors involved in
principal-agent and principal-steward relations;
- Establishing the causes for the differences and/or similarities of actors involved in principal-agent and
principal-steward relations.
The projects deals with three hypotheses:
- Accountability positively influences the performance of non-state social protection actors
- Cooperation positively influences the performance of non-state social protection actors
- Institutions working with the principal-stewardship relationship perform better than those working with
the principal-agent relationship.
Data for this project is being collected from Dodoma Municipaliy and Bukoba Rural District.
